Daily recap of REengage Winter Conference: Tues., Jan. 28

The first day of the Illinois REALTORS® 2025 REengage Winter Conference included multiple sessions led by expert speakers. The day ended with the always popular RPAC Celebration and Auction.

Session takeaways included:

  • Up your game when you align your habits, standards and goals with your purpose, said keynote speaker Paul Epstein. The former NBA and NFL executive gave members a playbook for building unshakeable confidence and during, "The Power of Playing Offense in a Defensive Environment."
  • Use valuable and unique housing data from HousingWire to better inform, prepare and reassure anxious clients, said Logan "Chart Daddy" Mohtashami.
  • President-elect Jeff Kolbus, a Peoria-area REALTOR®, was joined by influential Chicago REALTOR® Kim Kerbis and Springfield-area REALTOR® and 2013 Illinois REALTORS President Michael D. Oldenettel, to share insights into 2025 trends in housing sales, interest rates, local government actions, likelihood of housing-friendly legislation and buyer sentiment.
  • Mary Kelly provided members with proven ideas for leaders to use to grow their business in the face of a crisis.
  • REALTOR® Matt Persicketti and local Governmental Affairs Director (GAD) Michael Dobrow offered examples of the importance of teamwork in local advocacy to defend private property rights and fight just-cause eviction ordinances. They encouraged members to watch local government actions closely and to support each other when action is needed.
  • Local GAD Neeley Erickson and Local GAD Nora Gruenberg supplied numerous examples of municipalities implementing crime-free housing ordinances, only to be faced with costly lawsuits when accused of violating property rights and fair housing laws. They encouraged members to be vigilant about similar ordinances that will cause problems in their communities.
