City of Tulsa Human Rights Commission to Host Humanitarian of the Year Award Ceremony Dec. 11

The City of Tulsa's Human Rights Commission will host the annual Humanitarian of the Year Award Ceremony on Thursday, December 11, at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 175 E. 2nd St.

The Human Rights Commission recognizes deserving Tulsans each year with the Humanitarian of the Year award. This award acknowledges Tulsans whose care for others is evident in their work to promote human welfare and alleviate suffering without prejudice.

This year's honorees are Winnie Guess Perdue, Greater Tulsa Area Indian Affairs Commissioner, and Maybelle Wallace, Greater Tulsa Area African American Affairs Commissioner. Both are recognized for their humanitarian qualities through their artistic endeavors, service to Tulsa, advocacy work and civic engagement.

"The Human Rights Commission looks forward each year to recognizing Tulsans for their service to our community. This year's recipients exemplify civic engagement through the art of theatre and dance among other avenues," said Chair of the Human Rights Commission, Dr. Andrea Walker. "We are honored to recognize both recipients for embodying empathy, compassion, impartiality and a deep understanding of 'the inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family' as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948."

Deputy Mayor Krystal Reyes will be the keynote speaker for the ceremony and deliver a proclamation designating December as Universal Human Rights Month in Tulsa.
