The Hong Kong Observatory hosted the 8th Annual Meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) / World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Typhoon Committee
1 (referred to hereafter as the "Typhoon Committee") Working Group on Meteorology (WGM) from 21 to 22 October 2025. This marked the first time the Observatory hosted the WGM Annual Meeting.
The meeting was conducted in a hybrid format, with both in-person and online participation. Delegations from 12 of the 14 Members of the Typhoon Committee attended the meeting, with more than 30 meteorological experts from the Asia-Pacific region.
During the meeting, delegates presented their annual Member Reports and reviewed the achievements of various projects in 2025. The experts also engaged in in-depth exchanges and technical sharing on the latest development in tropical cyclone monitoring and forecasting, and discussed future WGM activities as well as operational and research collaboration projects.
