Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom Deep Dive

Join Senior Manager of the RTS/RPG group and Project Lead Brad Chan, Art Director David Ok, and Design Director Sam Kim as they lead us on a deep dive into Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom.

A New Campaign Rooted in Warcraft III

Forsaken Kingdom returns to the heart of Warcraft III storytelling with two campaign experiences: the Last Days of Lordaeron prologue campaign and the main campaign. The prologue delivers a more traditional, linear Warcraft III experience across four missions, while the main campaign opens into a soft open-world RPG structure inspired by the beloved Rexxar campaign.

Along the way, players will journey to iconic locations such as Stratholme and the Undercity while experimenting with a new inventory system featuring gear slots, items, hero kits, and talent systems built to support the campaign's RPG ambitions.

A Definitive Edition Graphics Mode

Introducing Definitive Edition, a new graphics mode for Warcraft III: Reforged and Forsaken Kingdom. Built to honor the timeless look of the original Warcraft III, Definitive Edition preserves readability, bold silhouettes, iconic unit identity, and stylized charm while bringing the game's fidelity forward.

That philosophy extends across the campaign's environments, where immersion, verticality, and dynamic lighting help bring familiar places to new life. Players can expect maps shaped with verticality and dynamic lighting, supported by overhauled lighting and fog technology, and day-night transitions. The new features used to build the campaign's maps will also be available in the World Editor for custom map creators.

Meet the Forsaken Paladin

Patch 3.0 also introduces the Forsaken Paladin to Warcraft III: Reforged, bringing a powerful new hero to the battlefield. Armed with Consecration, Righteous Fury, Sacred Aura, and Cleansing Fire, this champion channels healing, damage, control, resistance, and battlefield-shaping power.

  • Righteous Fury: The Paladin charges forward, dealing damage and slowing nearby enemies.
  • Consecration: An instant-cast area-of-effect heal that blesses the ground around the Paladin and damages enemies. Friendly undead units do not take damage from Consecration, though they do not receive its benefits.
  • Sacred Aura: Increases the magic resistance of nearby friendly units.
  • Cleansing Fire: The Forsaken Paladin calls upon the Light to purge the area around him. The ability heals and buffs nearby allies, stuns enemies, dispels, and deals massive damage to summons.

Patch 3.0 also expands the unit selection limit from 12 to 24.

Celebrating the Hive Community

Meet the Hive Workshop community and contributors whose custom maps, years of creating Warcraft III custom content, and passion for Warcraft have helped shape the project: Alexandros Delas, Luca Pasqualini, Spas Petrov, and Ole Jesper Oliver Dahl.

Featured community projects included:

  • Alex's Lore & Legends, a series of custom campaigns based on Warcraft stories including Thrall's origin story, Day of the Dragon, and The Last Guardian.
  • Luca's Re-Reforged, which has released three of the five Reign of Chaos campaigns.
  • Oliver's Acolyte of Life, a story-driven, open-world RPG built in the Warcraft III engine.
  • Spas's Sunken City, a massive dungeon crawler RPG that can be played with up to three friends.

From Lordaeron to the Undercity and everywhere in between, the Forsaken Kingdom deep dive offered a glimpse at the strategy, creativity, and community passion that continues to define Warcraft III. Whether returning to familiar battlefields or forging new adventures with the Forsaken Paladin, this next chapter is yours to shape.

Forsaken Kingdom is available today. Players can also see Definitive Edition Graphics and the Forsaken Paladin in action during the Classic Cup.
