Senator Gillibrand Statement On Restoration Of Gateway Funding

Senator Gillibrand Statement On Restoration Of Gateway Funding

Feb 17, 2026

Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee, released the following statement after the Trump administration disbursed an initial $30 million tranche of federal funding Friday evening and announced plans to restore additional funding for the Gateway Hudson Tunnel project after an over four-month-long funding freeze led to a recent pause in construction:

"President Donald Trump and his administration's chaos have continued to hurt New Yorkers as he recklessly held the nation's most critical infrastructure project hostage with his political games. This waste of everyone's time represents what people hate about politics: Donald Trump keeps on putting partisan attacks against New York ahead of union workers, our economy, and common sense.

"This is only one step forced by a court loss. I will continue pushing this administration to do its duty to make sure Gateway is completed without further disruption or layoffs."

The release of funding came after work on the Gateway Hudson Tunnel project was initially paused last week, and a ruling was issued by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The states of New York and New Jersey, as well as the Gateway Development Commission in a separate case, are suing the Trump administration.
