MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg will host psychologist Richard Tedeschi for a talk on posttraumatic growth from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, in the Mukund S. Kulkarni Theatre on campus.

The event is sponsored by the School of Behavioral Sciences and Education and the campus chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology.

Tedeschi, executive director of the Boulder Crest Institute for Posttraumatic Growth in Bluemont, Virginia, is one of the foremost authorities on posttraumatic growth - a term he and his colleague Lawrence Calhoun coined in 1995 to describe the positive psychological changes that can occur through the struggle with trauma and adversity. Together, they established one of the earliest laboratories dedicated to the study of growth following trauma in the early 1980s.

Tedeschi's work was named among Stanford University's list of the top 2% of the world's most-cited researchers, and he is a fellow of the American Psychological Association's Division of Trauma Psychology. In addition to numerous professional articles, Tedeschi has published 10 books.

The event is open to students, faculty, staff and community members. Registration is not required. Parking is free.
