City Rescinds Boil Water Notice for Commercial Industrial Zone in Carrollton; No Residential Customers Affected

On Wednesday, May 6, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the City of Carrollton public water system, 0570034, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to reduced water pressure recently in the Golden Bear Pressure Zone of the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The City of Carrollton has rescinded the boil water notice issued on Wednesday, May 6 after Public Works - public water system (PWS) 0570034 - recognized there was a problem with the water pressure at the Golden Bear Booster Station located at 2408 Tarpley Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Due to the low water pressure, a boil water notice was in effect for the surrounding pressure zone with boundaries including West Trinity Mills Road, Tarpley Road south to Commander Drive and east to Midway Road and Westgrove Drive/Sojourn Drive.

Carrollton Public Works has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of Friday, May 8. The pressure loss in the system was caused by a booster station malfunction.

UPDATE: The boil water notice issued Wednesday, May 6 is still in effect as of Thursday, May 7. No residential customers are currently affected.

Staff collected and sent water samples for testing. When the results confirm the water is safe, the City of Carrollton will rescind the notice and notify affected customers. A timeline for the notice to be rescinded has not been confirmed yet.

City Issues Boil Water Notice for Commercial Industrial Zone in Carrollton; No Residential Customers Affected

The City of Carrollton has issued a boil water notice after Public Works - public water system (PWS) 0570034 - recognized there was a problem with the water pressure at the Golden Bear Booster Station located at 2408 Tarpley Road this morning.

Due to the low water pressure, a boil water notice is in effect for the surrounding pressure zone with boundaries including West Trinity Mills Road, Tarpley Road south to Commander Drive and east to Midway Road and Westgrove Drive/Sojourn Drive. There are no residential customers in that commercial industrial zone, but there are a handful of restaurants and businesses.

The City is working to meet all requirements for notification of those impacted according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). As of early this afternoon, staff has successfully restored the water pressure levels; however, water samples must be tested for safety. Until the results confirm the water is safe, the boil water notice remains in effect. The City of Carrollton will provide an update once the notice is rescinded. The pressure loss in the system was caused by a booster station malfunction.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for human consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the City of Carrollton will notify affected customers that the water is safe in a manner similar to this notice.

The City encourages commercial and industrial properties in the area to share this information with any other people in the affected area who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly.

The City of Carrollton continues to manage the pressure issue by flushing any affected City main lines and taking bacteriological samples. A timeline for the notice to be rescinded has not been confirmed yet.
