Update on east-central Georgia winter weather response

Augusta, Ga. - The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has plowed all lane miles of Bobby Jones Expressway and Interstate 20 in east-central Georgia.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, Georgia DOT crews are plowing the shoulders of Bobby Jones Expressway and I-20. Crews have also started to plow high priority, multi-lane state routes throughout the district.

We plan to switch from plow operations to brine operations at approximately 7 p.m. Friday. An additional layer of brine will be applied on Bobby Jones Expressway and I-20 from mile marker 84 to the South Carolina state line. Brine is a solution of salt and water used to decrease the probability of freezing under certain conditions.

Georgia DOT continues to monitor the weather and is prepared to change treatment plans as needed.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, all state routes in District 2 (east-central Georgia) are passable.

We ask drivers in affected areas to limit travel as much as possible. If you must travel, please give Georgia DOT crews room and space on the roads to help ensure they can safely do their jobs.
