UPDATE/FINAL POST: 8:45 a.m. Oct. 6

The precautionary boil water notice issued Saturday, Oct. 3, for Volusia County Water Utility customers in portions of Volusia and Flagler counties has been lifted. The notice affected customers in Halifax Plantation, Sugar Mill, Fairchild Oaks, Plantation Oaks of Flagler, Wexford Cove, and Wexford Reserve.

The County has completed two rounds of bacteriological testing, and both rounds met all regulatory standards, confirming the water is safe to drink and use. Customers in the affected areas may resume normal water use, including drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, and washing dishes, without boiling their water.

The precautionary boil water notice was issued after an electrical disruption during inclement weather temporarily stopped pumping equipment serving the affected areas, resulting in a loss of water pressure. Volusia County utility crews responded and restored operations.

A precautionary boil water notice is in effect for Volusia County water utility customers in several communities in Volusia and Flagler counties following a temporary loss of water pressure caused by an electrical disruption during inclement weather.

Affected customers include those in Halifax Plantation, Sugar Mill, Fairchild Oaks, Plantation Oaks of Flagler and Wexford Cove. Halifax Plantation is in Volusia County; Sugar Mill, Fairchild Oaks and Plantation Oaks of Flagler are in Flagler County; and Wexford Cove spans both counties. All of the affected communities receive water service from Volusia County.

The electrical disruption temporarily stopped pumping equipment, resulting in a loss of water pressure. Volusia County utility crews responded and restored the system to normal operation.

As a precaution, affected customers should boil water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes. Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use. Customers should also discard ice produced by automatic ice makers. Bottled water may be used as an alternative.

In accordance with regulatory requirements, Volusia County will conduct bacteriological testing to confirm the water is safe to drink. The precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until testing confirms the water meets required standards. The County will notify affected customers when the notice is lifted.
