Nature Center & Refuge staff honored with Texas Senate proclamation

The staff and volunteers of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge were recently recognized with Texas Senate Proclamation No. 130 during the annual Fort Worth Wild Gala, hosted by the Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge in support of the Refuge's ongoing conservation efforts.

Sen. Taylor Rehmet presented the proclamation to Nature Center manager Dr. Jared Wood on behalf of the entire Center's team. In addition to the proclamation, Rehmet presented the Nature Center with a Texas state flag that was recently flown over the State Capitol.

"We cannot build a strong future without protecting the natural environment that makes Texas beautiful," said Rehmet. "The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge represents the very best of Texas conservation through its dedication to preserving native landscapes, protecting wildlife and inspiring environmental stewardship for future generations."

The Senate proclamation recognizes the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge for safeguarding 3,700 acres of prairies, forests and wetlands, making it one of the largest and most diverse municipally owned nature preserves in the United States. It also highlights the Refuge's role as a living classroom, providing students, families and visitors opportunities to connect with nature while fostering a deeper understanding of Texas ecosystems and conservation.

The recognition specifically acknowledges the tireless efforts of the Refuge's staff, volunteers and community advocates, whose work preserves critical habitat for native species - including the iconic American bison - and ensures the Refuge remains a treasured natural sanctuary for generations to come.

Located in one of the nation's fastest-growing regions, the Fort Worth Nature Center continues to serve as a rare and essential natural space for education, recreation and renewal. This Senate recognition reflects the City of Fort Worth's continued commitment to conservation and celebrates the dedicated team whose daily work protects one of the community's most treasured natural resources.
