Students and staff from the British Academy of Jewellery (BAJ) are showcasing their innovative work at Munich Jewellery Week 2026, with pieces featured in the Transforma(c)tions exhibition at the Munich Mineral Museum (20 February - 20 April). Curated by Dr Sofie Boons and Yitong Zhang (Glasgow School of Art), the exhibition examines how minerals and light can shape contemporary jewellery.

Students Explore Light and Perception

Nine BAJ students were selected to exhibit in the Optics Zone, showing work that responds to light and explores themes of transformation, temporality, and perception.

Student participants: Anastasia Kan, Emily Murphy, Lily Straker, Naima Cheniya, Natalie Asher-Martin, Rebecca Prenga, Rozana Piper, Veroni Dimitrov, and Veronika Dika.

Anastasia Kan, BAJ Student said,

"I feel very honoured that my ring has been exhibited on a global stage, and grateful that my work could be part of such a special exhibition. Being surrounded by so many diverse artists who share the same passion as I do was incredibly inspiring and motivating for my own practice."

Staff Experiment with Crystals BAJ staff Nicholas Yiannarakis and Syd Kendall appear in the Energetics Zone, presenting pieces that treat crystals as active materials rather than decorative objects.

Syd Kendall, BA Specialist Technician said,

"It was truly an honour to be a part of something so extraordinary. The time and work everyone had put into the exhibition, and their pieces were amazing to see. A genuine pleasure to be a guest and exhibitor."

Curator Investigates Material Transformation Dr Sofie Boons contributes to the Physics Zone, growing crystals within metal structures to make material change an integral part of the creative process.

The exhibition opening on 6 March brought together makers and audiences from around the world. BAJ participants described the experience as both inspiring and instructive, deepening their understanding of international jewellery practice.

Dr Matthew Williamson, Principal said,

"So proud of our staff and students representing BAJ internationally."
