As Executive Director of the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, I am outraged by the Department of Justice's handling of the Epstein file releases, which failed to protect victims and exposed their names and photos. This lack of care harms survivors who had the courage to come forward and sends a dangerous message to other survivors and future victims that they may not be protected if they seek justice. This is part of a broader pattern from the Trump Administration of actively harming and perpetuating state sanctioned violence, and showing more concern for powerful individuals who engaged in gender-based violence than for victims. At OPDV, our role is clear: we stand up for survivors and demand responses that put their safety, dignity, and voices first.
