Voting Alert for AVR Voters

Voting Alert: Voters Who Were Automatically Registered to Vote at DMV May Choose a Party to Vote in their Party's 2026 Primary Election
DOVER, DE - The Delaware Department of Elections (DOE) is issuing a special voting alert to voters who were automatically registered to vote without a political party affiliation at the DMV by the Primary Voter Registration Deadline of August 22, 2026 ("AVR Voters").
AVR voters who have not already chosen to affiliate with a party may designate their party affiliation as Democratic or Republican up to and including on September 15, 2026, the date of the Primary Election.
Voters may check the political party listed on the polling place card section of the large, purple voter information mailer the Department sent out in mid-August; if their party is listed as No Party-AVR on the card, they are eligible to choose a party by the Primary Election and vote in the Primary Election of the party they choose.
To vote in the September 15th Primary Election, AVR Voters may select their political party affiliation using any of the following methods:
• Choose to vote a Democratic Primary ballot or a Republican Primary ballot when voting at an early voting site or at their assigned polling place on primary election day. Their political party affiliation will be changed to the party of the ballot they chose to vote.
• Complete a party change online at https://ivote.de.gov.
• Return the Response to Automatic Voter Registration form that is included in notice mailed to all eligible AVR Voters.
• Download and print a form to complete from https://de.gov/vrapp
• Call or email the office for a form to be mailed or emailed.
• Fill out a form to affiliate with a political party in person at their county DOE Office during business hours.
The 2026 Primary Election will be the last election in which this AVR party-affiliation provision applies. Pursuant to a recent change in Delaware law, individuals registering to vote through the DMV will soon be given the opportunity to select a political party affiliation as part of the voter registration process at DMV.
