On July 10, 2026, at approximately 8:39 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was notified of a traffic crash in the 1800 block of North Academy Boulevard. Preliminary investigation revealed a motorcycle was northbound on Academy Boulevard and failed to negotiate the curve, leaving the east side of the road.
The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the nature of the injuries, the Major Crash Team was notified and responded to lead the investigation. Speed is being investigated as a possible factor.
On July 13, 2026, CSPD was notified by the El Paso County Coroner's Office that the deceased rider had been positively identified as 21-year-old Talon Severe
This incident marks the 32nd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time last year, the city experienced 26 traffic fatalities. Over the past 365 days, there have been 59 traffic-related fatalities within the city.
