Motorists traveling on Maynardville Highway (State Route 33) in Union County should be aware of upcoming road construction activities that will have an impact on traffic.
Beginning at approximately 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, there will be a traffic shift on Maynardville Highway (State Route 33) from near England Road to near the intersection of State Route 61 and Satterfield Road. This traffic shift is necessary to allow for the completion of construction of the box culvert near the north side of Raceway Drive.
Flaggers will be in place to direct motorists through the work zone. One lane will remain open throughout this traffic shift, but intermittent short-term stoppages will take place as needed. Work also includes milling, paving, and the removal and reinstallation of pavement markings. This traffic shift is expected to be completed by 7 p.m. on the same day.

This schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present.
As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and "Know Before You Go!" by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel. The TDOT SmartWay system provides the latest updates for road construction activity.
