Open Space Impact Fees Would Support Nettelhorst Elementary Recreational Upgrades

The Nettelhorst Elementary School playground in Lake View would be improved through $577,000 in Open Space Impact Fee (OSIF) funds under a proposal introduced to City Council today by Mayor Brandon Johnson.

The funding would support a new turf field, running track and recreational equipment, as well as enhanced landscaping and additional seating on the school grounds at 3252 N. Broadway.

The balance of the $1.96 million project would be funded by Chicago Public Schools and an Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grant.

The OSIF program allocates fees paid by residential construction projects for open space improvements that offset the impact of new residents on community parks and related resources.
