Mayor-President Edwards Announces Agreement with St. George on Intergovernmental Cooperation

BATON ROUGE, LA - Friday, April 4, 2025 - Today, Mayor-President Sid Edwards announced that the Edwards Administration has reached an agreement with St. George - marking the first step in a collaborative process between the two governments.

"This is about working together and doing what's best for the entire parish," said Mayor Edwards. "We believe this agreement sets the tone for respectful cooperation and responsible governance going forward."

The agreement, which will be introduced at the upcoming Metro Council meeting on April 9, is designed to provide stability for St. George. It protects the City-Parish from liability for any work or services being organized within St. George and allows for more accurate and stable budgeting across the parish.

While this agreement resolves many of the logistical issues related to shared services and responsibilities, it does not explicitly address the official incorporation date of St. George. That matter is expected to be handled in a later phase of the process.

"This is a significant first step that fosters trust between both cities and reflects a genuine commitment to working together for a brighter future for all," said Dustin Yates, Mayor of St. George.

"This is a win for everyone involved," Mayor Edwards added. "Our priority is to ensure continuity, clarity, and collaboration as we move forward. The Metro Council has played an important role in these discussions, and I look forward to continuing our work together in the weeks ahead."
