• Employees donate blood at a mobile station operated by the German Red Cross
• Company supports social commitment and grants time off for donations
• 21 first-time donors and 29 litres of blood collected
Hospitals in Germany require around 15,000 blood donations every day for operations, the treatment of serious illnesses and the care of accident victims. To provide active support, technotrans SE organised its first blood donation campaign at its headquarters in Sassenberg in cooperation with the German Red Cross (DRK). The response among the approximately 550 employees at the site was remarkable: 58 employees took part in the initiative. The company supported the social commitment of its workforce by granting donors time off during working hours for the donation.
The DRK blood donation service repeatedly warns of critical supply shortages. Illness waves and seasonal fluctuations in particular regularly lead to stocks of life-saving blood products falling to just a few days' supply. Against this backdrop, the works council of technotrans SE developed the idea of taking action and making a direct contribution to alleviating this shortage.
"We regularly hear in the media about limited blood supplies and the urgent demand in hospitals. That led us to ask how we, as a company and as a workforce, could help in a simple and practical way," says Birgit Versmold, member of the works council and co-organiser of the campaign at technotrans. The idea was immediately met with strong approval - both from employees and from the Executive Board. "We are truly overwhelmed that 58 people signed up straight away for our first campaign," reports Versmold.
A tangible contribution to the region
For the campaign, the DRK deployed a blood donation truck on the courtyard of the technotrans plant in Sassenberg. After donating blood, participants were provided with refreshments. The results speak for themselves: among the 58 donors were 21 first-time donors. In total, 29 litres of blood were collected during the several-hour campaign. These supplies will now flow directly into regional healthcare provision.
The fact that the entire campaign took place during regular working hours was a given for the technotrans Executive Board. "Social and corporate responsibility are integral parts of our corporate philosophy and shape our daily actions. That is why we fully supported this excellent initiative from day one," emphasises Michael Finger, CEO of technotrans SE. "We would like to express our sincere thanks to all employees who made a genuine, life-saving contribution by taking part, as well as to the experienced DRK team for their outstanding cooperation." Following the positive feedback from employees, the organising team is already planning to repeat the campaign at the Sassenberg site.
