Shriners Children’s Marks New Milestone with Ribbon Cutting in Las Vegas

The ceremony represents the opening of a new outpatient orthopedic clinic.

Shriners Children's cut the ribbon on its first outpatient clinic in Las Vegas, bringing specialized care to children and families in the region.

The clinic is already seeing approximately 150 patients per week and operates in partnership with Intermountain Health. Shriners Children's is currently providing care within the facility as the partnership advances long-term plans for the Las Vegas market.

"Until now, families in this region had to travel far outside the city, even the state to access certain types of specialized care," said Jenifer Powers, M.D., chief of staff and pediatric orthopedic surgeon. "This clinic lays the foundation for what we hope will become a destination for pediatric musculoskeletal care."

Leaders from Shriners Children's, Shriners International and Intermountain Health joined local stakeholders, patients and families for a brief ceremony before cutting the ribbon on the next chapter for the international nonprofit healthcare system.

Shriners Children's Las Vegas provides specialized care to children with orthopedic conditions including scoliosis, clubfoot, hip dysplasia, fractures and sports medicine. All care is provided regardless of the families' ability to pay or insurance status.

"Many orthopedic conditions require numerous surgeries, therapy, rehabilitation and emotional healing," said Chairman of the Board of Trustees Leslie D. Stewart, M.D. "Our commitment is to walk beside these children and families every step of the way, now in a clinic much closer to home."

Stacie, a Las Vegas resident, knows firsthand the difference Shriners Children's can make in a family's life. She was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease, and traveled to Shriners Children's in Los Angeles for treatment as a child. The same was true for her daughter, Aly, who was also born with the condition. Now Aly can get the same specialized orthopedic care from Shriners Children's without taking time away from school and the activities she loves.

The new clinic further strengthens Shriners Children's extensive network of specialty pediatric care, which includes hospitals, outpatient clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, telemedicine sites, affiliations and outreach clinics across North America and in dozens of countries around the globe.
