Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, held a meeting with Mr. Mohamed Yahya, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator in the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), along with representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in Islamabad today.
At the outset of the meeting, Dr. Musadik Malik congratulated Mr. Mohamed Yahya on his appointment as Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator. He acknowledged Mr. Yahya's previous tenure as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Pakistan and appreciated his continued engagement with the country.
The Federal Minister observed that the humanitarian work carried out by the United Nations remains one of the Organization's most important contributions to the global community. He appreciated the UN's role in supporting countries during humanitarian emergencies and in strengthening resilience against climate-related disasters.
During the meeting, both sides discussed avenues for enhancing cooperation between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and the United Nations system, particularly in areas related to climate resilience, disaster preparedness, sustainable development, and humanitarian response.
The discussion also focused on identifying priority areas for long-term collaboration and developing a roadmap for joint initiatives over the coming years. Both sides emphasized the importance of working closely with provincial governments to ensure effective implementation of climate and humanitarian programmes at the local level.
