Roll on Capitol Hill 2025 Confronts the Current Political Crossroads

In a matter of weeks, nearly 200 wheelchair users and allies will take Washington, D.C., for our signature advocacy event, Roll on Capitol Hill, to meet with their representatives in Congress.

A budget that threatens our independence looms large. Major social programs are at risk. Challenges to Medicaid, Section 504, and other retrograde policy moves that would erode bedrock disability rights are becoming a routine part of the political landscape.

Roll on Capitol Hill couldn't come any sooner, frankly. It's time for a little people power. ROCH is our community's opportunity to assert our own policy agenda in response to the anti-disability backlash. It is also a much-needed occasion to celebrate our power, our reach, and our tenacity-together.

Our Grassroots Advocacy Network now covers all but one congressional district and numbers over 2,600 wheelchair users, developing and empowering many of the exceptional individuals who will gather on the Hill this month. We've doubled our ranks in three years. ROCH is especially invaluable in this kind of period of growth. Nothing else connects our advocates like ROCH does, consolidating our organization for the long-haul, historic campaigns for which United Spinal is best known.

ROCH brings our community together to envision a better world-and arm them with the tools to achieve it.

Three Days That Spark a Lifetime of Advocacy and Community Building

Roll on Capitol Hill packs a lot into three and a half days. It doesn't start slow, either.

Guests will be treated to a reception with our Keynote Speech on Sunday night and opportunities to relax, reunite with old friends and make new ones.

In addition to preparation for the Hill visits with members of Congress and their staff, we have six major educational sessions planned on our current policy priorities and the bigger picture of advocacy and what's at stake.

Every ROCH, we hold a Congressional Reception that shows off United Spinal at its most swank. Naturally, the Reception is where we reveal our Congressional Champions for the year, awarding them with the Outstanding Congressional Leadership Award. But it's also where our community takes center stage, and we present the Finn Bullers Advocate of the Year Award.

We can't name any names right now, of course, but without giving away too many spoilers, our celebrated advocates this year have made waves around one of our big concerns of the moment, accessible parking.

Finally, running throughout the event is our Sponsor Expo, featuring many of our valued partners. Attendees should make sure they take a moment to get to know some of the organizations that help make our work possible.

What We're Fighting For

The Roll on Capitol Hill is organized around a set of certain policy priorities. They determine the content of our educational sessions, Congressional meetings, and the policy briefs that burst out of the orange folders that ROCH attendees hand off to representatives and their staff.

This year, we are rolling on Capitol Hill to tackle the following issues:

  • · Wheelchair Repair and Service Reform
  • · Accessible Transportation
  • · Disability Rights at Stake
