Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Community Development Department invites residents, workers, businesses and stakeholders to participate in Everyone's Coast: A Zone In Update and Mobility Plan (Everyone's Coast). The project is part of a citywide effort to update Long Beach's zoning regulations to align with the General Plan and improve access to Long Beach's coast, create more housing options and make it easier to get around. It focuses on communities in and near the Coastal Zone, especially areas that have faced long-standing challenges.

Everyone's Coast focuses on two key areas:

  • Sub-Area One includes the coastal community between Alamitos Avenue and Naples Island, south of Broadway. This area will be rezoned to implement the General Plan PlaceTypes adopted by Long Beach City Council in 2019.
  • Sub-Area Two includes Central Long Beach neighborhoods, like Cambodia Town and the Zaferia, and is defined by the boundaries of Pacific Coast Highway to the north, Magnolia to the west, 10th Street to the south, and Ximeno to the east. This area was generally rezoned in 2024 through Zone In: City Core and will be the focus of mobility analyses to improve transportation options and access to the city's coast and beaches.

Residents within these two study areas and businesses within Sub-Area One are invited to complete a brief survey and enter to win a $50 gift card. Survey teams will also visit neighborhoods to gather stories and feedback. The Sub-Area One: Coastal Communities Survey is available in English, Spanish, Tagalog and Khmer. The Sub Area Two: Central Long Beach community survey is also available in English, Spanish, Tagalog and Khmer.

As part of engagement efforts, Everyone's Coast will also incorporate a Leadership Academy composed of residents seeking additional ways to be involved in the project. This six-session program will help participants:

  • Learn how urban planning and zoning decisions are made in Long Beach
  • Build skills to share their stories and work with City leaders
  • Connect with neighbors and build community in Central and Coastal Long Beach

More information about the Leadership Academy will be announced in the coming weeks. For more information on Everyone's Coast and to stay updated, visit longbeach.gov/everyonescoast. To sign up for project updates and event alerts, fill out the interest form at lbcd.info/everyonescoast.
