The FDNY will be represented at the 4th Annual Climb to SUMMIT at One Vanderbilt in Manhattan on Sunday, April 19.
The annual climb is put on by the FDNY Foundation-the Department's official nonprofit organization-in partnership with SL Green Realty Corp. Each year, the climb brings together teams to take on the challenge of ascending 93 stories-more than 1,100 feet-to the top of SUMMIT One Vanderbilt.
"The stair climb is something that the Foundation came up with a few years ago, and it's a fundraiser for the great work the Foundation does," Chief of Department John Esposito said. "But it also brings us back to September 11, 2001, when our members had to climb 70, 80, 90 floors after the planes hit the towers at the World Trade Center."
"The significance, particularly in a year like this, is immeasurable. What we do at the FDNY Foundation is really just a show of gratitude for what the men and women of the Fire Department do," said Matthew J. DiLiberto, Chairman of the FDNY Foundation.
