Cobb County Elections and Registration Plans Review of Precincts and Procedures Following November 4 Election
Marietta, GA (Nov. 7, 2025) - Cobb County Elections and Registration will conduct a review of precinct logistics and procedures following the November 4 election. While voting went smoothly for most of the 84,000 Cobb residents who cast ballots on Election Day, issues at a few precincts prompted the review.
Voters at several polling sites that hosted more than one precinct experienced higher turnout than anticipated and longer lines than typical. The most notable congestion occurred at the Thompson Park Community Center, which hosted two precincts and faced accessibility challenges that were compounded by a closed roadway within the park. Elections staff responded quickly by deploying additional personnel, voting equipment, and law enforcement to maintain traffic flow and ensure safe access. These actions were not enough to alleviate the traffic congestion or long voter lines. Cobb voters expect and deserve better. The determination and commitment of voters who persevered to cast ballots under the circumstances were on full display.
Co-locating precincts, like the one at Thompson Park Community Center, is necessary due to site availability or scheduling conflicts beyond the control of Cobb County Elections and Registration. One precinct also encountered technical issues, leading to an order to remain open later than scheduled. The department will review its co-location practices, morning setup procedures, and technical-support protocols to improve the voter experience and help prevent similar delays in future elections.
"While Election Day can present logistical challenges, our focus remains unchanged: to ensure every eligible Cobb County voter has the opportunity to cast their ballot," said Michael D'Itri, Acting Elections Director.
Voter turnout on Election Day exceeded the total ballots cast during the three weeks of Advance Voting, which included approximately 39,979 in-person Advance Voting ballots and 1,172 absentee-by-mail ballots. On Election Day, a total of 84,840 ballots were cast countywide. The co-located Thompson Park Community Center was the busiest polling location, recording 1,645 ballots, about 200 more than the next busiest site.
Recognizing voters have access to Advance, Absentee, and Election Day voting, elections officials remind voters that wait times often increase during the final hours of Election Day. Advance Voting is available for three full weeks prior to each election at multiple locations throughout Cobb County, and a Wait-Time Tracker on the county's website provides real-time updates to help voters plan their visits.
