The University of Wyoming Jazz Lab Band, directed by David Wharton, will present "Just for Fun: Big Through the Ages" Monday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.
The concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
This evening of classic and modern jazz repertoire will open with Frank Foster's "Shiney Stockings," arranged by Sammy Nestico, and Duke Ellington's "Blue Cellophane," featuring faculty member Daniel Watt on trombone. Jackson Keller will lend his vocal talents to an arrangement of "All of Me" by Gerald Marks. Other highlights include Woody Herman's energetic "Woodchoppers' Ball," Herbie Hancock's soulful "Dolphin Dance," arranged by Bob Mintzer, and Chuck Mangione's iconic "Land of Make Believe."
Student performers include saxophonists Caleb Peeks, Sydney Maddaloni, Jonathan Tribby, Silas Chetterbock and Nathaniel Anderson; trombonists Dolan Glasser, Ariell Purcell, Cash Profit and Madison Copenbarger; trumpeters Landon Rau, Morgan Gelwicks, Vincent Gallizzi and Bryley Waring; trumpet/horn player Natalie James; drummer Brody Stone; bassist Noah Miller; and pianist Renato da Silva.
