This is a good time to test and check your smoke and CO alarms.
Replace alkaline batteries in alarms that use them, and check the manufacturing date printed on the back. Replace smoke alarms that are more than 10 years old and replace carbon monoxidealarms that are more than 5-10 years old, depending on the model. The manufacturing date is printed on the back.
Replacing your alarm? Select one from a well-known national brand with a sealed, long-life battery and a hush feature. Look for the mark of an independent testing lab like UL or Intertek/ETL.
This is also a good time to review your emergency escape plan with the entire family. Include the pets in your escape plan too.
Remember that early warning by smoke and carbon monoxide detectors combined with an escape plan can be a life saver!
