Mountain View, CA - On July 16, 2022, Jeffery Choy, then a 33-year-old Stockton resident, shot a Mountain View patrol officer during a traffic stop. The bullet passed through the officer's arm and struck his body armor.
Choy fled the scene and subsequently crashed his vehicle. In partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service and Mountain View detectives, Choy was arrested the following day. He was brought back to Santa Clara County and was booked on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer.

After being found guilty by a jury on May 6, 2026, the defendant awaited sentencing. On October 7, 2026, Choy was sentenced to 50 years for attempted murder of a Mountain View Police Officer. Police Chief Mike Canfield issued the following statement:
"We remain deeply grateful that our officer survived this attack and are proud of him and the courage he showed that night. I want to thank District Attorney Rosen and Deputy District Attorney McKeown for their dedication to securing justice for our officer, and our community for supporting our officer and the MVPD. Today's sentencing holds Choy accountable for this violent act and reminds us of the very real dangers our officers face while protecting our community."
