Ongoing Federal Government Shutdown: As our Congressional delegation advocates for a swift resolution to this government shutdown and the preservation of critical healthcare benefits for working people across our city and state, my administration continues to closely monitoring the potential effects of the federal government shutdown on city grants, operations, and local partners. Key updates include:
-
Social Security & Medicare: Payments will continue, but new enrollments may face delays.
-
Travel: Expect longer airport wait times and passport processing delays.
-
Mail: USPS will continue normal service.
-
IRS: Many services are paused, so assistance and refunds may be delayed.
-
SNAP & WIC: SNAP benefits will continue, but WIC funding is limited and may soon pause.
-
Military & Veterans: VA hospitals and TRICARE remain open, though new scheduling may be delayed.
-
Small Businesses: The SBA cannot process new business loans during the shutdown.
-
Investing in Infrastructure: We are continuing to build new sidewalks, pedestrian bump-outs, ADA-accessible ramps, and upgrade crosswalks across the city. These projects will help slow down traffic, improve visibility, and make our streets safer for all. If you have a sidewalk or speeding concern, please file an unsafe sidewalk request or traffic investigation request on FixIt at https://veoci.com/v/p/form/wbvcc7v4ycns.
-
Animal Shelter Groundbreaking: It was great to join the groundbreaking for Stamford's new Animal Control & Care Center! The new 8,000-square-foot facility will provide compassionate, high-quality care for animals and a safe, modern workspace for our dedicated staff and volunteers. The center will feature 20 dog kennels with interior runs, quarantine and isolation areas, dedicated cat housing with an outdoor "catio", modern office space, multipurpose training rooms, and adoption areas. The project also features new landscaping with a dedicated dog walking park.
