Program has approved 878 projects since 2023 to keep Vermonters in their homes and create more housing
Montpelier, VT - The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is opening applications for the Manufactured Home Improvement and Repair Program (MHIR) on February 23 for manufactured home repairs in registered Vermont mobile home parks. Applications will also be opened for the infill of vacant lots in registered parks. Applications for foundation awards and emergency home repairs are already open and will likely remain open for the year.
Since its launch in 2023, DHCD, in partnership with Vermont State Housing Authority (VSHA) and Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO), has awarded $9.7M for 878 home repair, foundation, and infill projects in mobile home parks across the state.
A survey of over 90 participants found that home repair awards lessened the burden of worrying about a safe home. A home repair recipient said, "My mobile home is set for another 40 years of life and will be cost efficient as I head into retirement and a fixed income." A foundation recipient said, "We got into our home, something that wouldn't have happened without this help."
MHIR provides financial assistance to qualifying homeowners and registered mobile home park owners. MHIR offerings include:
Emergency Home Repair Awards are also available to prevent housing loss due to severe damage including complete loss of heat, drinking water, or electricity.
Applications will be accepted until March 31st, subject to funding availability. For assistance with completing a home repair application:
