Glendale Water & Power Celebrates Public Power & Water Professionals Week
Glendale, CA - Glendale Water & Power (GWP) proudly joins public power utilities across the nation in celebrating Public Power Week, October 4-10, 2026, while also recognizing California Water Professionals Appreciation Week, October 3-11, 2026.
Public Power Week is an annual celebration of the nation's more than 2,000 community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities. Together, these utilities provide reliable, safe, and affordable electricity to approximately 54 million Americans across 49 states and five U.S. territories. At its core, public power is about people serving people, and GWP remains committed to providing Glendale with safe, reliable, and affordable electric service.
During the same period, GWP recognizes California Water Professionals Appreciation Week, a statewide observance designated by the California Legislature to honor the dedicated water and wastewater professionals who help provide safe, reliable water, wastewater, and recycled water services to communities throughout California.
"Public Power Week and Water Professionals Appreciation Week give us an opportunity to recognize and thank the dedicated men and women who power and sustain Glendale every day," said Scott Mellon, General Manager of Glendale Water & Power. "Their expertise, hard work, and commitment to public service help ensure that our community continues to receive safe, reliable, and sustainable water and power services."
Public Power Week and Water Professionals Appreciation Week provide an opportunity to recognize the people behind the services Glendale residents and businesses rely on every day. From electric lineworkers and water treatment professionals to engineers, customer service representatives, and other staff working behind the scenes, GWP employees play an essential role in keeping the community powered and supplied with safe, reliable water.
Together, GWP's water and power professionals exemplify the utility's commitment to service, safety, reliability, and the Glendale community.
Community Celebrations
Throughout the week, GWP will celebrate its employees and engage with the community through a variety of activities, including:
