Sequoyah Residents Invited to Help Shape $1.5 Million in Neighborhood Improvements with Upcoming October Workshops

The City of Tulsa is inviting Sequoyah neighborhood residents to participate in two upcoming workshops to help guide how $1.5 million in Improve Our Tulsa funds will be invested to enhance the neighborhood.

On August 8, 2023, Tulsa voters approved the third Improve Our Tulsa package, funded by General Obligation Bonds and a sales tax extension. As part of this package, $15 million was budgeted for neighborhood revitalization projects in 12 neighborhoods, $1.5 million of which was designated for community-driven improvements in the Sequoyah neighborhood.

This October, the City will host two workshops for the Sequoyah neighborhood where residents can share their ideas and priorities:

Workshop 1

  • When: Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 6-8 p.m.
  • Where: Sequoyah Hills Baptist Church, 714 N. Harvard Ave.

Workshop 2

  • When: Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 6-8 p.m.
  • Where: Sequoyah Hills Baptist Church, 714 N. Harvard Ave.

"Strong and safe neighborhoods are the foundation of a thriving city," Mayor Nichols said. "When we invest in our streets, parks, sidewalks, and community spaces, we aren't just improving infrastructure, we're sending a message to our youth that opportunity is possible in every part of our city. I'm thankful for the residents of Sequoyah who will help shape how these funds are spent, and I look forward to seeing these improvements contribute to a more vibrant neighborhood for years to come."

Examples of potential projects include:

  • • Sidewalk, ramp, and crosswalk construction and repair
  • • Neighborhood street lighting
  • • Park improvements
  • • Trees and landscaping
  • • Neighborhood identity gateways and signage
  • • Traffic calming measures
  • • Seating, trash bins, bike racks, and wayfinding signage
  • • Public art installations

"These workshops are an important opportunity for residents to directly shape how these dollars will be invested in their neighborhood," District 3 City Councilor Jackie Dutton said. "I would like to invite all Sequoyah neighbors out to see how they can improve their neighborhood and make a meaningful impact in their community."

Both workshops are open to all Sequoyah neighborhood residents, and community members are encouraged to attend and share their input.

Additional Neighborhood Improvements & Workshops
Additional neighborhoods receiving improvements over the next several years will include Charles Page, Crosbie Heights, Crutchfield, Dawson, Kendall-Whittier, the Pearl District, the Phoenix District, Red Fork, Southwest Tulsa, Unity-Heritage, and West Highlands.

While each neighborhood has proposed projects, neighbors are engaged prior to the start of each project to help finalize what improvements will take place. Projects will occur from now through 2029, with the Crutchfield neighborhood scheduled for a set of workshops in November, specifically November 13 and November 20.

Workshops, dates, and more information about each neighborhood can be found online at: www.improveourtulsa.com
