PALMDALE, CA - Ready to make a splash and prepare some summer fun? The City of Palmdale is now accepting applications for its Parks and Recreation summer program leaders and lifeguards. Join the team to help bring exciting activities to the community. Applications for lifeguards, special events program leaders, and program leaders at DryTown Water Park are now open. Program leader positions in sports, parks, recreation centers and community programs open on Feb. 3.
"It might be cold now, but we need passionate individuals to help our community beat the heat this summer," said Mayor Richard J. Loa. "Our Parks and Recreation summer programming is beloved by our residents, and the program leader roles provide a great opportunity for someone wanting to get involved while having flexible working hours."
Program leaders assist with planning, coordinating and conducting recreation activities for children and adults at community events, sports leagues, community centers and the water park. These positions are ideal for those seeking to develop their professional career skills and make an impact in their neighborhood. The starting pay for program leaders is $18.67 per hour, and applicants must be 16 years old by July 1, 2025.
"Our program leaders and lifeguards do more than just warn 'no running on the pool deck,'" said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. "These roles are essential to the operation of the City's summer programs and demonstrate leadership qualities that will further a person's future professional and educational goals."
Lifeguard positions are perfect for those seeking an energetic work environment with a rewarding level of responsibility working with the public. As the "eye in the sky," lifeguards keep an attentive lookout to prevent accidents in the water or on the swimming pool deck and ensure everyone follows City swimming pool safety while having a blast. The starting pay for lifeguards is $19.60 per hour. Applicants must be 17 years old by July 1, 2025, and be certified through the American Red Cross. The City will host a Lifeguard Academy in February; participants who successfully complete the academy will receive certification and are guaranteed an interview to become a lifeguard.
