RICHMOND, Calif. - The National Park Service recently learned of the passing of retired National Park Service ranger Betty Reid Soskin. Betty passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of Dec. 21, 2025.

Betty was a valued member of the National Park Service family. During her time with the park service, Betty made significant contributions to the development of Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park in California. She was a powerful voice for sharing her personal experiences, highlighting untold stories, and honoring the contributions of women from diverse backgrounds who worked on the World War II Home Front.

"Betty Reid Soskin was among the best of rangers - those who create links between history and future generations. Her voice enriched and expanded the Rosie story, presenting a broader view of the American home front," said K. Lynn Berry, Superintendent for Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park. "Betty's legacy will inspire future generations to share stories and recognize the influence individuals can have on how history is understood."

The park extends its deepest condolences to Betty's family and all who loved her. Thank you, Betty, for your service, your stories, and your light.
