Volcan Compañía Minera has launched the Mining 4.0 Operator Training Program for
its Romina Unit, an initiative aimed at developing technical specialists in automated
and tele-operated mining equipment. These professionals will support one of the most
technologically advanced underground mining projects in Peru and the region.
This milestone marks the beginning of Mining 4.0 implementation at Volcan - a digital
evolution of mining operations focused on reducing operational risks by integrating
automation, connectivity, and data analytics to enable safer, more efficient, and
sustainable operations.
Operators of automated equipment will play a key role in the modernization of Romina
and will receive both theoretical and hands-on training using state-of-the-art simulators
designed to replicate real operational environments.
This initiative is being implemented through strategic partnerships with Ferreyros
(Caterpillar) and Epiroc, global leaders in mining technology. Ferreyros will provide
training in tele-remote and automated operation of R1600H scooptrams, while Epiroc
will train operators in the automated operation of Simba E70 S drilling rigs. These
technologies will enable remote operations with high levels of precision, safety, and
efficiency.
