Ibrahimović in New York: Strengthening Euro-Atlantic stability and advancing the European perspective

During his visit to New York, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović took part in two important events dedicated to advancing regional cooperation, transatlantic partnership, and the European perspective of the Western Balkans.

On the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, Ibrahimović attended the working breakfast of the U.S.-Adriatic Charter (A5), hosted by Bosnia and Herzegovina in its capacity as current chair. On this occasion, Ibrahimović underlined the importance of intensifying political dialogue, strengthening mutual trust, and deepening practical cooperation in order to advance regional European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He stressed that Montenegro's NATO membership represents a fundamental pillar of national security and reaffirmed that Montenegro remains a reliable ally, actively contributing to strengthening Euro-Atlantic stability. Ibrahimović further highlighted the strategic partnership with the United States, expressing confidence that sustained U.S. commitment to the Western Balkans is essential for reinforcing shared values and interests.

Ibrahimović also participated in the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of the Western Balkans, hosted by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, with the participation of European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. In his remarks, Ibrahimović expressed gratitude for the European Union's continued support of enlargement policy, emphasizing that enlargement is not only a technical process, but also a strategic investment in the stability, resilience, and prosperity of the entire continent. He underscored the importance of assessing each candidate country's progress on the basis of individual merits, thereby ensuring the credibility of the process and fostering citizens' trust in European reforms.

Montenegro, he affirmed, remains firmly committed to the European agenda and is prepared to actively participate in all EU initiatives and policies relevant to the future prosperity of the Western Balkans. As Ibrahimović noted, Montenegro's ambition is not only to benefit from membership as a future EU member state, but also to make a substantial contribution to the collective security and resilience of the European Union.

Throughout the day, Ibrahimović will also hold a series of bilateral meetings with foreign ministers, including those of Mongolia and the Maldives, in addition to participating in the Crimea Platform Summit, an event dedicated to missing persons in armed conflicts, and in the UN Security Council debate on artificial intelligence and its implications for international peace and security.
