We welcome with hope the US-proposed peace plan for the Gaza Strip, drawn up in consultation with Arab and Muslim countries and the government of Israel. We see it as a realistic and bold attempt to end the conflict and create conditions for a lasting peace in the Middle East.
We appreciate that the plan provides for an immediate cessation of hostilities, release of hostages, and unhindered access of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
We note with satisfaction that the plan paves the way for economic recovery and a two-state solution, including the integration of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank into a future Palestinian state. This approach offers an opportunity for a fair and lasting settlement of the situation, taking into account the rights and security of both Palestinians and Israelis.
We call on all parties to the conflict to seize this opportunity, take responsible decisions, and cooperate in implementing the deal. We expect Hamas to accept the plan, comply with its provisions, and release all hostages within 72 hours.
We hope that the proposed plan will represent a turning point in the peace process and will bring about an end to the tragic humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
