Speed skating timed trial challenge for Chicagoans ages 6 and up
CHICAGO-The Chicago Park District is excited to host the 108th Silver Skates Speed Skating Competition at 6 public ice rinks throughout January. Skaters ages 6 and older can compete in a speed skating time trial for free. Registration is available now for skaters ages 6 and older. Check-in begins at 5:15 p.m., on each race day, with races starting at 5:45 p.m. The series culminates at the Citywide Championship on January 18, 2025 at McFetridge Sports Center at 3843 N. Skate Distance by Age
Each age group skates a specific distance.
Citywide Championship
The Silver Skates Citywide Championship will take place indoors at 10:00 a.m. on January 18, 2025, at McFetridge Sports Center, located at 3843 N. California Ave. Up to 5 skaters in the children's division will advance to the Citywide Championship. Immediately following the children's competition, the adult division championship will take place. Adult skaters do not need to post a qualifying time to compete in the championship. Check-in and onsite registration will begin at 9:15 a.m. for the final event in the 2025 Silver Skates series.
Skating in the Parks
The Chicago Park District offers hockey programs, open skate, and skating lessons at 5 ice rinks located within unique neighborhood parks. Programs and hours vary at each ice-skating site. Visit each ice skating rinks' distinct webpage to view hours, program schedules, accessibility information, rules, and more. Outdoor ice rinks are now open and close on February 17, 2025, weather permitting.
