Meet the woman who embarked on fifty-four adventures with the goal of honoring her late father by finishing his bucket list. Laura Carney, author of My Father's List: How Living My Dad's Dreams Set Me Free, will discuss her book at a One City, One Book Celebration Tuesday, October 7 from 6-8:30 pm, at Piedmont Hall, Greensboro Coliseum Complex, 1921 W. Gate City Blvd.
The evening begins with a Community Resource Fair showcasing more than 20 local service organizations. At 7 pm Laura Carney will offer insight into her book in a conversation with Donna Washington and Melanie Brooks. Laura Beth Vietor who hosts author chats on her popular BookTube channel LB the Lover of Books will be the discussion moderator. Afterwards, Carney will sign books and talk with guests as the Community Resource Fair continues.
This event marks the beginning of Carney's Greensboro Residency as she joins One City, One Book events through October 23, 2025. My Father's List is the story of how one woman-with the help of family, friends, and even strangers-found the courage to go after her own dreams after realizing those of her free-spirited father.
Donna Washington is an award-winning storyteller known for vivid performances and a magnetic stage presence. Melanie Brooks is author of the memoir, A Hard Silence: One Daughter Remaps Family, Grief, and Faith When HIV/AIDS Changes It All.
Library Director Brigitte Blanton is looking forward to hearing from Carney, "I actually listened to My Father's List as an audiobook and the author's voice truly adds a layer of emotional connection to this story. So, I'm very excited that Laura will be here in person for multiple events as she shares this life-changing experience with her father's bucket list."
