Dr Daniel Wanjau appointed Head of Corporate Commercial and Real Estate

Dentons Hamilton Harrison & Mathews is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Daniel Wanjau Muriu as the new Head of its Corporate, Commercial & Real Estate Department. Dr. Wanjau succeeds Richard Omwela, whose distinguished leadership and invaluable contributions have been instrumental in shaping the department's success and growth.

Mr. Omwela has transitioned from his role as a Partner in the Firm to serve as a Consultant, where he will continue to provide strategic guidance and share his wealth of experience with the team and clients.

An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 31 years of experience, Dr. Wanjau is a seasoned practitioner and respected leader. He began his legal career in commercial litigation, honing his advocacy skills in the courts before transitioning to corporate and commercial practice, where he has established himself as a trusted advisor to clients across multiple sectors.

Dr. Wanjau's expertise spans legal and regulatory compliance, with particular focus on technology, banking, insurance, telecommunications, competition law, and intellectual property. He is widely recognised for his strategic insight and commercially focused approach to complex regulatory and transactional matters.

His work has earned consistent recognition in leading international legal directories, including Chambers Global, The Legal 500, World Trademark Review, IFLR1000, and IP Stars. In its most recent rankings, Chambers Global awarded him a Band 1 ranking in Telecommunications, Media & Technology and recognised him in the Spotlight category for Competition/Antitrust. In its 2026 rankings, World Trademark Review conferred him a Gold ranking, reinforcing his earlier recognition by IP Stars/Managing IP in 2024 as Kenya's IP Practitioner of the Year.
