Westchester Medical Center Achieves SRC Accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery

VALHALLA, NY - October 30, 2026 - Westchester Medical Center (WMC), part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), has achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery from Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), recognizing the Comprehensive Hernia Center's commitment to patient safety, high-quality care and continuous improvement. WMC is the first SRC-accredited hernia center between New York City and Syracuse and the first in the Hudson Valley.

The accreditation follows a rigorous, unbiased review of the program against nationally and internationally recognized standards. The evaluation included the surgical expertise and experience of physicians, standardized clinical pathways, consultative services, equipment and instruments, patient education and the systems that support patients throughout their care.

"Achieving this accreditation is an important milestone for our Comprehensive Hernia Center and, most importantly, for the patients and families who rely on us for their care," said Kartik Prabhakaran, MD, MHS, FACS, Chair, Department of Surgery, and Director, WMCHealth Trauma Consortium, Westchester Medical Center Health Network. "It recognizes the multidisciplinary expertise, standardized practices and culture of continuous improvement that our teams bring to every patient experience."

The achievement represents a multidisciplinary effort across WMCHealth, including surgeons and clinical teams, nursing, clinic staff, perioperative services, operating room and post-anesthesia care teams, sterile processing, and hospital administration. Together, these teams have built a comprehensive program focused on consistent clinical practices, coordinated care and an optimal patient experience.

"This accreditation reflects the exceptional, coordinated care our teams provide to patients at every step of their surgical journey," said Matthew Bronstein, MD, FACS, Interim Chief, Section of Trauma, General Surgery & Surgical Critical Care; Medical Director, Surgical Critical Care at Westchester Medical Center. "By bringing together specialized surgical expertise with nursing, perioperative services and comprehensive support, we are helping patients receive safe, high-quality care centered on their individual needs."

Patients can take comfort in knowing that Westchester Medical Center has received third-party verification of its patient care efforts. SRC's evaluation guidelines prioritize patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
