ICYMI: U.S. Senator Katie Britt Joins Common Ground with Bret Baier

'We talk about peace through strength all the time. To me, this is the definition of that.'

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) yesterday joined Common Ground with Bret Baier and Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.). Senator Britt praised President Trump's leadership in holding Putin accountable for Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and Iran for its murderous 47-year regime. She also reflected on the life and legacy of the late Senator Lindsey Graham and discussed the importance of passing the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026.

On ensuring President Trump has the tools to bring Putin to the table and end its war against Ukraine:

"… I appreciate President Trump's leadership on this, knowing that it's time to end this war, and we need to drive Putin to the table. This gives President Trump the flexibility and the economic firepower he needs to actually achieve that. We talk about peace through strength all the time. To me, this is the definition of that. [Lindsey Graham] had been talking about this for a year and a half, nonstop working with Senator Blumenthal … Senator Shaheen, Senator Wicker and others building the coalition that was needed … We want there to be peace. We think Putin's war machine has to be held accountable, and we know that this is the way to do it. So, I appreciate President Trump's leadership, and I look forward to giving him the tools he needs to bring resolution in this war."

On President Trump holding Iran accountable:

"It is my opinion that this was 47 years too late in taking action. I appreciate President Trump holding Iran accountable. He clearly wants resolution to this, obviously was willing to enter into the MOU. It was Iran that chose to walk away from that. And President Trump has said … we're not going to let that happen. We're going to hold you accountable. They have had a murderous regime for 47 years that has enacted terror on Americans and our allies abroad. That must come to an end. So, I think that we've made significant strides in diminishing their capabilities. I appreciate President Trump's leadership on that. And ultimately, we want to make sure that there is a peaceful resolution to that."

On working to finish what Senator Lindsey Graham started:

"[After] losing giants like … Lindsey Graham … Senator Shaheen's willingness to continue to work across the aisle, it's essential to get things done … I've said time and time again, if you share a goal with someone on the other side of the aisle, you have a duty to the people you serve to get in a room and to figure out a pathway forward. That's what Lindsey Graham did each and every day. He put the people of South Carolina (and) this country in the best and strongest position possible. And he knew it was his job to work with people that he may not agree (with) on other issues, but where he did agree, and he could achieve a result, it was his job to do it. And so, I hope more people will follow that … example, standing firm on your values, but finding a pathway forward for the people you serve is essential to making all of this work."
