Florida Launches Home Mitigation Program – Elevate Florida

The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) has introduced Elevate Florida, a first-of-its-kind statewide residential mitigation program designed to protect homes and communities from the devastating effects of hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters. This program aims to strengthen homes, reduce property damage, and lower insurance costs for Florida residents.

Elevate Florida streamlines the mitigation process, making it easier for residents to secure their properties. Homeowners may benefit from:

• Reduced insurance premiums
• Increased property value
• End-to-end assistance, from application to construction
• A cost-share covering up to 75% of project expenses
• Additional support, including contractor services, temporary housing, and ADA accommodations

Eligible Mitigation Projects

The program provides funding for:

• Structure Elevation - Raising an existing home to reduce flood risk
• Mitigation Reconstruction - Rebuilding homes that are not structurally sound for elevation
• Acquisition/Demolition - Voluntary buyouts where homes are demolished, and the land is preserved as open space
• Wind Mitigation - Strengthening homes against high winds by improving roofs, windows, doors, and other vulnerable areas

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for Elevate Florida, applicants must:

• Be over 18 and a U.S. citizen
• Own a residential property in Florida
• Contribute up to 25% of the project's cost

Multi-family units such as condos, duplexes, townhomes, and manufactured homes may also be eligible.
