Niagara University Partners with New York State to Offer Free Nursing Degrees

Niagara University's participation in the New York state Career Pathways Training (CPT) Program will provide eligible students with the opportunity to attain a fully funded nursing degree.

Through this program, Niagara University will offer free tuition, books, supplies, and fees to students pursuing education in the following areas:

New York's Career Pathways Training Program is a transformative initiative aimed at addressing the healthcare workforce shortage, ensuring that students can focus on their education without the burden of debt. It is intended to make higher education more accessible and help create a pipeline of qualified professionals to address critical needs in the healthcare sector.

Niagara University's involvement is facilitated through the Finger Lakes Performing Provider System (FLPPS), which was selected by the state as a Workforce Investment Organization to distribute funding for the training of future nurses and other healthcare providers.

"We are tremendously grateful to Governor Kathy Hochul, New York state, and FLPPS for bringing this critical initiative to fruition," said the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., president of Niagara University. "The program is also representative of our Vincentian mission, as it transforms the lives of our nursing students while addressing critical healthcare challenges, especially in underserved communities. We are proud to align with this state-led initiative and be at the fore of educating the next generation of leaders in the healthcare industry."

Students who participate in the CPT Program will sign a three-year service agreement to work for a healthcare employer in New York that serves at least 30% Medicaid or uninsured members. There are no income limits for potential participants.

Prospective students interested in taking advantage of this opportunity are encouraged to act quickly. Applications are currently being accepted, and spots are expected to fill. To be eligible for this program, students must complete their education by 2027.
