CCTV: Recently, a Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson has spread disinformation to vilify China. What's China's comment?
Guo Jiakun: On the remarks by a spokesperson of a certain department of the Philippine Coast Guard, we previously made clear China's position and lodged serious protests to the Philippines. The spokesperson has repeatedly made irresponsible and baseless remarks, and keeps fanning inflammatory provocation and confrontation out of political motives. They constitute a grave violation of China's national interests and dignity. China firmly opposes it and will not tolerate it. It's the duty of China's Embassy in the Philippines to defend national interests and dignity.
The remarks and moves by that spokesperson and a handful of individuals in the Philippine military are also detrimental to the relations and mutual trust between China and the Philippines. It's their behavior that primarily led to the downward spiral of bilateral ties. China once again urges the Philippines to immediately take effective measures to undo the egregious impact, lest they disrupt normal diplomatic communication or even further harm bilateral ties. We also call on these individuals to stop making provocations and trouble at once, stop attacking and smearing China, and stop collaborating with anti-China forces outside the region. Otherwise, they will bear the consequence for their despicable moves.
China Daily: We noted that the Advisory Council of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation recently held a meeting and released the 2025 research report. Could you share more details?
Guo Jiakun: On January 27, the Advisory Council of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held a video conference. Members of the council spoke highly of the positive progress of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. They noted that the BRI has played an important role in boosting world economic growth and promoting sustainable development, and contributed to deeper mutual trust and closer international cooperation under the current international situation. They proposed that participating parties should strengthen cooperation in areas of connectivity, international trade, artificial intelligence and digital economy.
The meeting released a research report titled "The Belt and Road Initiative: High-Quality International Economic Cooperation." Full text of the report can be found on the Foreign Ministry's website.
AFP: According to reports, China has approved purchases of Nvidia's H200 artificial intelligence chips for the first time. Can the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirm this? What does this signal for U.S.-China ties?
Guo Jiakun: On this issue, we have made response on multiple occasions. For anything specific, I'd refer you to competent authorities.
Reuters: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in his meeting with President Xi today said that he wanted to build a "sophisticated relationship" with Beijing. How does the Chinese side interpret that? What does a "sophisticated relationship" look like?
Guo Jiakun: This morning, President Xi Jinping had a successful meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The two leaders agreed that China and the UK need to develop a long-term and consistent comprehensive strategic partnership. This reflects the two sides' new vision on bilateral ties and provides sound and stable expectation for cooperation in various sectors between China and the UK.
Ukrinform News Agency: The Telegraph wrote that China is helping Russia expand their production of Oreshnik ballistic missiles by supplying specialized equipment and machine tools. Russia uses these missiles to attack Ukrainian cities. How does the Foreign Ministry respond to that? Second, over the past month, Russia has been carrying out massive missile and drone attacks on energy infrastructure throughout Ukraine and destroyed a large part of the heat generation capacity and electricity capacity in many Ukrainian cities. Many countries are sending emergency aid to Ukraine. Does the Foreign Ministry have any comments on such Russian attacks and maybe China plans to provide aid to Ukrainians?
Guo Jiakun: On your first question, China's position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent and clear. We neither fuel the flames, nor seek profit from the crisis, and will never accept blame-shifting.
On your second question, China always calls on parties to follow the principles of no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting and no provocation by any party, and accumulate conditions for the political settlement of the crisis. China will continue to play a constructive role in its own way to ease the humanitarian situation in Ukraine.
AFP: According to reports, China has executed 11 people involved with Myanmar criminal gangs, including members of the Ming family which is linked to the death of 14 Chinese citizens. Does the Chinese Foreign Ministry wish to comment on this? Can the Ministry share any details into ongoing efforts to dismantle fraud networks involving Chinese citizens?
Guo Jiakun: Competent authorities have released information. For some time, China has been actively working with Myanmar and other countries in combating crimes of cross-border telecom and online fraud, eliminating the scourge of online gambling and telecom fraud, protecting the safety of people's life and property, and keeping the exchange and cooperation between regional countries in order. These efforts have achieved remarkable results. China will continue deepening international law enforcement cooperation, step up efforts of combating telecom fraud and online gambling and other related cross-border crimes, and eradicate the problems of gambling and scam.
Reuters: Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo wrapped up his visit to Beijing yesterday. What are the short-term and long-term political dividends that China stands to enjoy following the visit?
