With colder temperatures expected in the evenings of Thursday, Jan. 23, and Friday, Jan. 24, community organizations in Volusia County are set to provide cold-weather shelters to support residents who lack adequate heating or housing during these nights. These shelters are a coordinated effort to offer a safe and warm environment for those in need.
Operated by The Neighborhood Center, The Bridge at 421 S. Palmetto Ave. in DeLand will open its doors to guests at 6:30 p.m. on both evenings. Guests are welcome to stay until around 8 a.m. the following morning, with breakfast available before departure. For more details on The Bridge's services, contact The Neighborhood Center at 386-734-8120, ext. 601.
Additionally, Halifax Urban Ministries (HUM) is collaborating with various churches on the east side of the county to extend shelter services during these cold nights. Although HUM does not run a stand-alone cold-weather shelter, it ensures that those in need can find refuge through its partnerships. For shelter access or transportation assistance, call HUM at 386-317-5886 as soon as possible.
