Portland, OR - A little over a year since the passage of Donald Trump's Big Ugly Bill, Oregonians are bracing for the worst cuts to take effect, including an estimated $4.7 billion in federal funding cuts to Oregon's Medicaid program over the next five years. This will be especially harmful in Oregon as nearly 1 in 3 residents - and over 50% of children - are covered by the Oregon Health Plan.

Despite this, Republican candidate for governor Christine Drazan has not only refused to lift a finger to try to help Oregon, but she hasn't even publicly spoken out against the Trump health care cuts.

In fact, during her time in the Oregon legislature, Drazan established a record of consistently opposing efforts to expand access to health care and address health care costs for Oregonians.

  • She voted against funding for the Oregon Health Plan.
  • She opposed expanding Medicaid access to more people in Oregon.
  • She opposed legislation to even explore the possibility of universal health care in Oregon.
  • She voted no on the creation of the Prescription Drug Affordability Board, which reviews and reports on price increases in prescription drugs.

Given her consistent opposition to any efforts to make health care more affordable, voters deserve to know: Why won't Christine Drazan speak out against Donald Trump's Big Ugly Bill even though it threatens to cut off health care for 200,000 Oregonians?

"As deep health care cuts are looming, Christine Drazan's silence makes it clear that she won't stand up to Donald Trump's agenda that is ripping away care and raising costs," said Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz. "Her failure to stand up to her party's extreme MAGA leadership in DC is just one more reason Oregon voters can't trust her. When Donald Trump attacks Oregonians' health care, we need leaders who are willing to fight back, not sit quietly and let it happen."
