Winter Weather Update Jan. 10, 2025

1/10/2025

The City of Tulsa is responding to the 4-6 inches of snow that has fallen in the area, in addition to some additional snow coming through this morning.

Street crews are plowing and applying salt to all of the main roads. Crews will continue on the current response until about midday today, and then switch to team group snow plowing where additional turn lanes will be addressed.

Currently, Tulsa's main arterial roads are passable at this time, but drivers are urged to practice caution, slow down, and allow plenty of time to get to their destination.

This year, as more snowplows have been outfitted with new carbide blades, more street crews are able to stay on the roads and clear them more quickly. Rather than having to change a snowplow blade 2-3 times in a 24-hour period, these new blades can last multiple winters without needing a change.

The City of Tulsa will continue 24-hour operations through Saturday morning to address the potential for refreeze overnight.

For more information on winter preparedness, visit www.cityoftulsa.org/weather.

As background, the City of Tulsa is only responsible for clearing snow and ice from all arterial (main) streets, not most major highways that pass through. The only highways the City treats are the Gilcrease Expressway (except for the Turnpike extension), and the L.L. Tisdale Expressway. All other highway segments in Tulsa (i.e. I-44, I-244, Broken Arrow Expressway, the Creek Turnpike, Highway 169, etc.) are the responsibility of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

The City's snow and ice routes, in addition to the resources the City has to treat Tulsa's roads, can be found online at www.cityoftulsa.org/winterpreparedness.

For those customers, extra recyclables will be accepted, and customers will be allowed to set extra, accepted recyclables outside of their blue recycling bin in a recyclable container (i.e. box) and they will be collected at no additional charge.
