Risch on Meeting with His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Binmubarak of Yemen

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement after welcoming the Prime Minister of the Republic of Yemen, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Binmubarak, to the U.S. Capitol:

"I was glad to welcome His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Binmubarak to the Capitol. Yemen is in its 10th year of war and remains fragile and sits at a strategic maritime pass. The previous administration's policies have allowed the Houthis to operate with impunity for too long.

"His Excellency and I welcomed President Trump's Executive Order to re-designate the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and discussed legislation I introduced earlier this year to do the same. Through their terror attacks, the Houthis have crippled international shipping, increasing costs to American consumers, and threatened the lives of Americans and Israelis. I look forward to working with our partners to degrade the Houthi threat and put Yemen on the path to stability."
