Henderson Police Join Forces Targeting Pedestrian Safety

Joining Forces Aims To Save Lives by Increasing Awareness About Pedestrian Safety

HENDERSON, Nev. (Sept. 5, 2025) - The City of Henderson Police Department would like to remind the public that keeping our roadways safe is everyone's responsibility, whether you are traveling by foot, bicycle, motorcycle or motor vehicle.

Henderson Police will begin the 12th Joining Forces enforcement initiative targeting pedestrian safety from Sept. 5 through Sept. 22, 2025.

As part of Joining Forces, a statewide law enforcement program, agencies will work together to target intersections with clearly marked crosswalks.

In Nevada, 113 pedestrians died in accident involving motor vehicles in 2024, according to Nevada Crash Data on zerofatalitiesnv.com.

Tips for Drivers:

  • Yield to pedestrians at all crosswalks-marked or unmarked.
  • Stop well back from crosswalks so others can see pedestrians.
  • Never pass vehicles stopped at a crosswalk. They are stopped to allow pedestrians to cross the street.
  • Remain stopped until pedestrians finish crossing your lane or reach the median.

Tips for Pedestrians:

  • Use sidewalks and stay clear of traffic.
  • Put away phones and earbuds while walking.
  • Never assume a driver sees you; make eye contact before crossing in front of them.
  • Be cautious at driveways and traffic exits.
  • Give drivers time to stop-at 35 mph, it takes about six seconds.
  • Cross at crosswalks or intersections where drivers expect you.

The Henderson Police Department received $179,000 in grant monies for enhanced enforcement through the Nevada Department of Public Safety - Office of Traffic Safety for the 2025 Joining Forces program.
