Congresswoman Schrier’s Statement on Beginning of a Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Kim Schrier (WA-08) released the following statement about the beginning of the government shutdown:

"I have always been committed to serving the people of the Eighth District. Over the last few months, it has become abundantly clear that people are struggling with rising costs on everything from groceries to healthcare.

"Instead of working across the aisle to address these issues, Republicans have continued to fall in line behind President Trump to play partisan games, which has led us to this current moment.

"I know that a prolonged shutdown hurts all of us, especially working families, seniors, and our brave service members here in the Eighth District. I also cannot vote for a funding bill that is harmful to the people I represent. That is why I stand ready and urge my Republican colleagues to come to the table to achieve a bipartisan compromise that helps people afford and access healthcare, lowers costs, and funds essential government programs."
